Only board certified lawyers are allowed by the State Bar of Texas to publicly represent themselves as specialists in an area of law. Board certification sets these attorneys apart as a law practitioner with the highest commitment to their area of legal specialization.
Certification is voluntary and can only be awarded to attorneys who have been in practice at least five years, with a minimum of three years of experience in their area of specialization. It also requires ongoing involvement in the area of specialization, peer references, and continuing education.
