Zometa (zoledronic acid injection) is manufactured and sold by the pharmaceutical giant, Novartis. Zometa is one of a group or class of drugs known as bisphosphonates, and it is formulated as a prevention and/or treatment for osteoporosis in both men and women of varying ages. Zometa, unlike some bisphosphonates, is prescribed to male and female patients who are also taking corticosteroid medications.

Zometa has been shown to be effective in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis by inhibiting the release of calcium into the bloodstream. This desirable drug action increases bone density in order to prevent atypical fractures that are a common result of osteoporosis. Zometa is also used to maintain bone density that can be compromised by certain forms of chemotherapy, and is thus credited with slowing the spread of cancer.

Unfortunately, Zometa use has been linked to a broad spectrum of moderate to severe side effects, the latter of which can present with symptoms or diagnosed disorders that include, but are not limited to: persistent itching, rashes or hives; vocal hoarseness; chest pains; irregular heartbeat; swollen or painful gums; tooth loosening; swelling of the tongue, lips, face and upper or lower extremities; mouth sores that do not heal, numbness of the jaw and more.

Perhaps the most dreaded of all Zometa side effects injuries is known as osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). ONJ is also known as Dead Jaw disease because the jawbone, in its entirety, actually dies and then decomposes. ONJ is horrific, debilitating, severely disfiguring and has no cure. Due to such potentially devastating side effect injuries, numerous and nationwide lawsuits now allege that Novartis has been willfully and lawfully negligent by failing to warn doctors and the general public about the serious dangers of Zometa use.

If you or a loved one has been harmed in any way by taking Zometa, be certain to act quickly by speaking to our leading, Texas personal injury lawyer at Roberts & Roberts. With our dedicated and hard fighting, Zometa side effects injury lawyer at your side, you’ll win the best possible cash settlement award you deserve!
