TYLER, Texas – (KLTV) A worker injured in the explosion yesterday at Delek Refining has died.
49 year old Dale Sharman of Tyler died overnight at a Dallas hospital, according to the Dallas medical examiner’s office.
6 people in all were injured in the blast. Firefighters were still dousing areas with water early this morning, and Tyler Fire Capt. Jeff Aikin said that a small residual fire may burn for days, and will be monitored by firefighters.
Today, federal investigators are trying to find out just what caused the explosion. We do know the blast happened in a sat-gas unit, a part of the plant that includes gas under very high pressure.
We have learned a little bit about Dale Sharman, the worker who passed away from his injuries. Friends say he was an extremely caring man who would go out of his way to help others. Sharman lived with his mother in Tyler and took care of her. He also had a brother.
