Product Safety Recalls

Every week, manufacturers and federal regulators recall vehicles, car seats, nursery products, toys, appliances, food and medicine that can hurt people. We share the recalls that matter most to Texas families, explain the hazard in plain English, and tell you exactly what to do if you own a recalled product. These updates are part of Safer Texas Communities, our firm's community safety project.

How to Check for Recalls

  • Your car, truck or SUV: enter your 17-character VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls. Open safety recalls are repaired free at the dealer.
  • Car seats and tires: NHTSA also lists child car seat and tire recalls. Register your car seat with the manufacturer so you are notified directly.
  • Household and children's products: the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission posts recalls at CPSC.gov.
  • Food, medicine and medical devices: see FDA.gov for most foods and drugs, and the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service for meat, poultry and egg products.

If You Own a Recalled Product

  • Stop using it unless the recall notice says otherwise.
  • Follow the remedy offered: repair, replacement or refund.
  • Keep the product, packaging and receipt until the remedy is complete.

If Someone Was Hurt

Get medical care first. Keep the product, its packaging, your receipt and any photos, and report the injury to the CPSC, NHTSA or FDA. Manufacturers can be responsible for injuries caused by dangerous products, whether or not a recall has been issued. There is no need to make any decisions right away.
