Every serious crash, chemical spill or roadway hazard in our area touches real families: parents, children, coworkers and neighbors. Safer Texas Communities is how Roberts & Roberts shares what officials have reported about these events in Tyler, Longview, Dallas and the communities we serve, along with product safety recalls, practical safety tips, resources for the people affected and simple steps we can all take to keep each other safe.
Our firm has served Texas families for 45 years from offices in Tyler, Longview and Dallas. We see the aftermath of preventable tragedies up close, and we believe the best outcome is the crash that never happens.
What We Can All Do
- Never drive impaired. Plan a sober ride before the first drink, and help friends do the same.
- Put the phone away. Five seconds looking at a screen at 55 mph is like driving the length of a football field blind.
- Watch for people walking, especially after dark. Many of our area's pedestrian deaths happen at night on busy multi-lane roads.
- Give big trucks room. A loaded 18-wheeler needs far more distance to stop than a car, and has large blind spots.
- Slow down or move over for police, fire, EMS, tow trucks and TxDOT crews on the shoulder, as Texas law requires.
- Report hazards. Call 911 for an immediate danger on the road. For ongoing problems like broken lights, missing signs or dangerous crossings, contact your city or the local TxDOT district office.
If you or someone you love was involved
Texas crash reports (form CR-3) can be purchased through TxDOT's Crash Report Online Purchase System, usually a week or two after the crash, or requested from the agency that responded. Take care of your health first, keep your medical records and bills, and lean on the people around you. You don't have to make any decisions right away.
