Consumers Beware of Chinese Tires
Consumers have faced a number of issues when it comes to Chinese products, including toys containing lead, tainted toothpaste, and recalled pet food. Problems with China’s products are being reported more frequently now than ever, and these problems include a car’s most vital safety features… its tires.
China exports close to 65 million tires per year. Recently, various Chinese tire makers have been reportedly manufacturing hazardous tires available for sale to consumers in the United States.
Many Chinese-based tire brands have come under scrutiny, but some of the most notable brands are AKS Tires, Compass Tires, Westlake Tires, and Telluride Tires. Some of these linese of tires were found to lack the most basic safety features every tire should be equipped with, such as cap plies and bead wedges. In most cases, these Chinese manufacturers have very minimal, if any, measures in place to assure quality control and are, in some cases, using manufacturing practices that are long outdated.
While Chinese-made tires can be more affordable, their low price is proving to be at the expense of consumer safety and could potentially be life-threatening.
